WASP Pilot Elaine D. Harmon Warbirds Scholarship

In memory of WASP pilot Elaine Danforth Harmon, this scholarship will provide up to $5,000 to fund flight training/type rating in World War II era airplanes. The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage and assist pilots to become involved in the warbird community to keep these historic airplanes flying. Warbirds bring a piece of history to the aviation community and help educate the general public. The applicants should provide an additional essay up to 500 words explaining their interest in warbirds and any background or preparation they have so far in seeking training in these airplanes or involvement in the warbird community. Applicants are encouraged to research if they meet minimum certification requirements to pursue this train- ing at their provider of choice. The funds will be paid directly to the training provider and must be used within one year of receiving the award.

Tailwheel Scholarship

In memory of WASP pilot Elaine D. Harmon, this scholarship will provide up to $1,500 to fund tailwheel endorsement training and test- ing. The purpose of the scholarship is to en- courage and assist pilots to become involved in the warbird community to keep these historic airplanes flying. The tailwheel endorsement is generally a requirement to pursue warbird pilot rating. Accordingly, this scholarship is intended to support a pilot who is interested in further training to fly warbirds. The applicants should provide an additional essay up to 500 words explaining their interest in warbirds and any background or involvement in the warbird community. Applicants are encouraged to research if they meet minimum certification requirements to pursue this training at their provider of choice. The funds will be paid directly to the training provider and must be used within one year of receiving the award.
